The #1 thing we all need for less stress? Positive routines and habits.

Often, we don’t have to think about every little action we are taking to move the needle forward in life. Perhaps we can rely on our routines and disciplines, rather than sheer motivation.

Confident and effective daily actions can allow us to focus and concentrate on cultivating energy and positive attitudes.

WITHOUT making it feel like it’s just another thing on our to-do lists.

One important thing for me as a teacher has always been to win the morning.

My Winning Morning Routine

When I arrive at school, I do these things

  • Put everything I brought in away in its place.
  • Do a 2-minute meditation to clear my headspace.
  • Write down the following on a sticky note:
    • 3 Things I Need to Get Done Today (The “Big 3”)
    • 3 Students that I Really Want to Connect With TODAY (I had 150 a day)
    • 3 Words That Embody How I Want to Show Up TODAY (Nobody's perfect!)
  • Plan my day (In head or on paper, YOUR choice)
  • Put on a pumped-up playlist and dance around the classroom while I get any materials ready that I need to
  • Definitely drink some coffee, or tea, or your choice of energizing beverage.

You don't have to follow my routine.

But, when you have some time to think, you should try to come up with one that works for you! Whether you are intentional about it or not, you do have routines - they might just not be currently serving you.

Find a routine that works for you and stick to it.

My routine takes me about 30 minutes before school starts to set up for the day. Even if it looks more like 5 for you, you can set yourself up for a good mindset for the day.

The Thing to Remember About Routines

Consistency compounds.

If you win the morning, you win the day. You can leave the classroom at the end of the day and feel accomplished. You can start your mornings with energy, productivity, and purpose.

I totally encourage you to come up with a morning routine for working day that works for youl!

Every day is a great day to be intentional!
