Rory’s Story Cubes Actions for Speech Therapy

Rory’s Story Cubes Actions for Speech Therapy works as a standalone game or can be added to the original Rory’s Story Cubes to double the fun!

Rory's Story Cubes Actions for Speech Therapy

Number of Players: 1+

Ages: 6+ (According to the box but I would save this for older kids and would go with 9+ as a guide personally)

Rory's Story Cubes Actions for Speech TherapyTarget: Just like the original cubes, these little wonders do a bit of everything but of course with this set the emphasis is on verbs or action words.

How the game is played: There are 9 dice, kept in a sturdy box. Each side features a new action, usually illustrated by a stick character complete with facial expressions. The player throws the dice and makes up a story that includes each of the actions shown

Using Rory’s Story Cubes Actions as a Speech Therapy Game

Nine dice with six sides each give us a set of 54 everyday verbs (such as dig, cut, smile, knock, catch). The illustrations work equally well in the past, present or future tenses so they are a great addition to grammar drills involving verb tenses.Rory's Story Cubes Actions for Speech Therapy

The stick character is gender neutral, so you can play about with pronouns too.

The best way to show you the scope of Rory’s Story Cubes Actions is to give you an example of a story created using the set.

“Happy Birthday Bob!Rory's Story Cubes Actions for Speech Therapy

Once Upon a Time, Bob decided to visit a friend. It was a lovely day so he set off walking and when he arrived he knocked on the front door. His friend was delighted to see him and they shook hands.

When his friend went out of the room for a moment, Bob saw a beautifully wrapped gift on the table “I wonder is that for me?” he said and while his friend was out of the room he picked it up and shook the box gently.

Rory's Story Cubes Actions for Speech TherapySomething made Bob jump and the box fell to the ground with a loud crunching sound. His friend peeped round the door with a worried expression and saw that the gift was broken and lying on the floor. Bob was so embarrassed at what he had done.

His friend cried with laughter when he saw Bob’s face and it was a while before he could control himself. Eventually, he put up his hand to steady himself and spoke “Oh you should see your face” he said “I knew you wouldn’t be able to resist taking a peek while I was gone and I know how clumsy you are so I wrapped up a fake gift. The real one is over here – Happy Birthday Bob!”
