Set up the game by placing the adjective cards in a stack face down in front of the baseboard. Spread the object cards face up around your play space. Explain to your students that the pirates are heading out on a long voyage, and they will need help in determining what to pack for their journey
The student draws an adjective card, chooses the object card that matches the description, then places that card onto the pirate ship. On each turn prompt the child to name an object from home or school that is also…(adjective on card.)
To play with the cards describing use, have the student draw and read a card. They then find the appropriate object and pack it onto the pirate ship.
Using the gold coin cutouts as spinners, set the game up like a regular board game. Stack the compass themed cards face down near the board. Choose one color of square to be the “draw” squares. Each time a student lands on that color, they draw a card and complete the task.
Use the treasure map themed cards and follow the instructions above for a different version of synonym fun.
This game board is open ended, so you can choose to make up your own set of rules depending on your students’ level of ability.
“Great graphics, and I love the colors as well! Thank you for being so creative and capturing a fun way to incorporate vocabulary and being able to reinforce the learning with games! I look forward to getting more of these vocabulary activities.”
